Presented by Outer Space, Blatt & Matonelli’s tile works were on display from July 9 - August 31st in the Fish Lane Art Precinct Vitrines.
Blatt & Matonelli’s ceramic works transformed the Fish Lane Art Precinct vitrines into a miniature public gallery, inviting passers-by to encounter tiles as both objects and storytellers. Featuring two bodies of work - Mosaic Morphologies and Tile Topographies - the display embedded cultural memory into Brisbane’s urban landscape, weaving narratives of heritage, craft, and place.
Ceramic tiles were composed within custom Tasmanian oak frames, forming tiled arrangements that highlighted the tactile qualities of making and the intimate labour behind each piece. At street level, the vitrines became an open invitation to pause, reflect, and engage with patterns rooted in ancestral memory and collective histories.
